INTRODUCTION At the General Members Meeting earlier this year, the NVTB decided to start organising PhD-Days once or twice a year. These meetings are intended to provide PhD students with an opportunity to give a somewhat longer talk on their work than is usual at most conferences. The first of these meetings is planned for October the 12th, at the University of Utrecht. Every PhD student working in the field of theoretical biology is invited to present a talk. Since we have only one day, and each speaker will be allowed 45 minutes (including discussion) for their presentation, there will not be many slots in the program. Therefore we strongly urge you to register timely if you would like to give a talk. Information on registration is given below. In the lecture room we have reserved, you will have a whiteboard, an overhead projector, a slide projector and a beamer at your disposal, so feel free to indulge in audiovisual extravaganza. In case we get too many registrations, the timestamp of the registration form will be used in deciding who will get the slot. Given the nature and diversity of current PhD research projects, this promises to be a very interesting day, so we would like to invite anyone interested to join us in the audience, to listen to these talks, to participate in the discussion and to quaff coffee and tea. We especially hope to welcome many PhD students and advanced undergraduates in the audience. Please register also if you do not intend to give a talk, so that we may know how much coffee and tea, and how many chairs we will be needing. TIME, PLACE AND COST
TRAVEL Thanks to our truly superior webmistress, the NVTB webpage (which you will be visiting in order to register anyway) has links to travel information for train, bus and car. There's even a link to a city map, so if you prefer coming by foot or bicycle you can find your way there. REGISTRATION Registration is solely via the registration form on the NVTB webpage. Please register regardless of whether you will give a talk or not. If you intend to give a talk, please also submit title and abstract. CONCLUDING REMARKS
We hope to welcome many people on this first PhD-Day, and we trust it
will be a successful start of a new NVTB-tradition.
