Sex determination

After some empirical talks on the surprising variety of sex determining mechanisms in vertebrates and invertebrates, Brian Charlesworth reviewed several theories on the evolutionary degeneration of Y-chromosomes. Based on rather complex population genetical models, he derived a number of testable predictions. However, the available empirical data do apparently not yet allow an accurate discrimination between the various hypotheses.
