Valinomycin is an antibiotic performing carrier action. Unloaded as well as after binding potassium, it can float freely within membranes. Since association and dissociation of potassium is purely concentration dependent, Valinomycin action leads to a collapse of the transmembrane electrochemical potential difference of potassium, causing cell death.
